The total population of Toba Samosir regency in the year 2008 is 172 746 inhabitants, with the number of households (RT) 38 276 RT.
With a land area of 2021.8 km ², population density Toba Samosir regency in 2008 amounted to 85.4 inhabitants / km ². Sub Balige which is the district capital, commercial center and seat of government is the district with the highest density level, amounting to 480.4 inhabitants / km ², then Sub Porsea of low density of 346.5 inhabitants / km ². While Nassau is the district with the lowest density level, ie, only 18.5 inhabitants / km ².
